Northwest DuPage, Post 1084, The American Legion is a very active Post. We are constantly coming up with new ideas and fundraisers to make a difference in our Community, State and Nation. One of the latest ideas was to apply for 501(c)(3) charitable foundation status.
As some of you may know, we have on several occasions been the #1 contributor in the State of Illinois for the Gifts to the Yanks program, which assists disabled Veteran's. Our Sons Program has been the #1 contributor in the State of Illinois to the Children's Welfare Fund, and the Son's also raised all of the money for a Handicap Accessible Fishing Pier for Turner's Pond in Roselle. In addition to these things we also host Picnics and Steak Dinners at area VA Hospitals and donate our Hall for the Schaumburg/Elk Grove Elks Lodge to host a Thanksgiving Dinner for Hospitalized Veterans from the Hines VA Facility. Acheiving 501(c)(3) status will greatly aid us in our fundraising efforts that benifit the above and allow us to broaden the charities that we can contribute to, making us a true asset to the Community, State and Nation.
All of these Community efforts require funding, and historically this funding has come from the hard work of many volunteers. Whether they stand out in foul weather collecting donations for Poppy Day or The Gifts To The Yanks programs, work a fundraising event like our Fish Fry's, or get out and make contacts with area businesses who would like to help with a donation. Volunteers are the backbone of our fundraising! Today our Home Post faces new challenges. Our Fundraising Dinners have become more and more successful every year. While this has been great for the charities we support, it has shown us what our current kitchen is lacking. Also we have been receiving some gentle pressure from the Health Dept. to update our kitchen.
This is very necessary in order to continue with a large part of our fundraising ability and our ability to assist with the needs of area Veteran's. Unfortunately these things take money, a lot of money. In order to update the Kitchen many other things have to be brought up to new building code standards. But once the kitchen upgrades are made, our ability to serve our area Veteran's will be that much better. The Legion family is reaching out to our Membership, and our Community, for help in raising these much needed funds. Anything that you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. Don't forget, we are now a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your contribution to RALCF has tax advantages.
